Lot 4531
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Silvered bronze, 18 mm, 2.67 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 328. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. PROVIDEN-TAE CAESS / STEE Campgate with no doors and two turrets; above, star. Cf. RIC 505 (for prototype). Very minor porosity, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The style of the portrait is of good quality and the obverse legend is error-free, but the blundered reverse legend and the mint mark indicate that this coin is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation.
